Complete Piano Sonatas 3

Scriabin's artistic development is reflected in the piano sonatas more than in almost any other genre. The Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 and 8 collected in this edition were composed by Scriabin between 1911 and 1913, partly at the same time as the late Sonatas Nos. 9 and 10.

All autograph and printed sources, including Scriabin's sketches and drafts, have been thoroughly analyzed for this volume. The result is a conscientiously edited musical text of the highest standard offering new ways of reading, supplemented by a knowledgeable preface (German/English) on the genesis and significance of the sonatas. The Critical Commentary (English) provides information on readings and editorial decisions. An elegant and reader-friendly music diagram with practical turning points rounds off this edition, which reflects the latest state of research.

"The clarity and correctness of the musical text is unassailable. ... The extensive preface, which is separate from the musical text, provides comprehensive information about Scriabin's harmonic style, the structure of these sonatas, their genesis and source history, as well as many other background aspects. All this is extremely conscientiously annotated ... Study of this edition is an indispensable guide to a better understanding of Scriabin as a man and a thinker, and as a uniquely innovative and prolific piano composer." (Simon Nicholls)
