With his edition of Beethoven's piano sonatas, Jonathan Del Mar has set new editorial standards that go far beyond the mere discovery of wrong notes: his approach guarantees a critical study of sources that is based exclusively on the evaluation of the physically tangible sources themselves and dispenses with hypotheses. Now the second volume of Del Mar's Edition with fingering is also being published.
The fingerings of the outstanding pianist Marc-André Hamelin aim to make audible the tonal peculiarities intended by Beethoven through specific articulation, phrasing, dynamics and tempo, also in interaction with the use of the pedal. Another essential aspect is the support of the movement sequences of arms, hands and fingers to solve technically difficult passages.
