The fingerings by the outstanding pianist Marc-André Hamelin aim to make audible the tonal characteristics intended by Beethoven through specific articulation, phrasing, dynamics and tempo, also in combination with pedal use. Another important aspect is to support the movement sequences of arms, hands and fingers in order to master technically difficult passages.
