The "Czech Dances" are the last cycle and at the same time the climax of Bedrich Smetana's piano works. Smetana was probably inspired to compose this work by the first series of "Slavonic Dances" by Antonin Dvorak. In addition to the four polkas composed in 1877, with which the author masterfully completed the stylization of the polka, the volume also includes ten folk dances dated 1879 with designations such as " Furiant ", " Slepicka " (Chicken), " Oves " (Oats), " Medved " (Bear), " Cibulicka " (Onion), " Dupak ", " Hulan " (Ulan), " Obkrocak " (Touch Circle), " Sousedska ", " Skocna " (Jumping Dance). These names conceal a variety of contrasting types of exuberant boys' and lyrical girls' dances. The cycle ends with two group dances. The new edition of the work is provided with editorial notes by the pianist Jan Novotny. - Practice-proven fingerings by the editor - New foreword by Jarmila Gabrielova (Czech/English/German)
