Following the critical new edition of Debussy's "Children's Corner" (BA 8767), the "Deux Arabesques" now follow in an Urtext edition for practical use.

These unique works of piano literature were first published in 1891 in a relatively small edition of only 300 copies. In 1903, the French publisher Durand tried to capitalize on Debussy's rapidly growing fame and had the first Arabesque printed in full in "Le Figaro". As a result, more than 50,000 copies were sold between 1904 and the publication of the new engraving in 1912, which contained corrections and revisions.

The new Urtext edition, which is primarily based on the corrected new engraving from 1912, offers the greatest reliability, as it takes into account all surviving sources and at the same time documents the development of the works up to 1912.
