Description:
Josef Suk (1874–1935) characterized his major work for piano, the cycle "Životem a snem" (Life and Dreams), as "an artist’s diary." Even though Suk’s musical language does not stray beyond the bounds of tonality, the richness of his resources, his flexible harmony and use of thirds, as well as his carefully notated performance instructions, were unheard of in Bohemia at that time.
The autograph contains many deletions, overwritings, and passages that are difficult to decipher; yet at the same time, it is carefully worked out and corresponds to a high degree with the first edition published in 1909. This first critical edition documents all discrepancies among the sources for the first time.
