The most famous of the fantasies, the Wanderer Fantasy, is also published as a single edition.
When Schubert himself once played the Wanderer Fantasy with friends and faltered, he exclaimed impatiently: The devil should play that stuff!
It was not Schubert, but Liszt, who like Schumann was a great admirer of the Wanderer Fantasy, who later arranged it for piano and orchestra as well as for two pianos. It also owes its nickname, which it still bears today, to him.
