Description:
Between 1889 and 1897, Satie composed a series of piano pieces which he gave the erratic title 'Gnossiennes' and provided with deliberately ironic performance instructions in which he satirizes the exaggerated attitude of Romantic piano playing.
With the edition of all seven 'Gnossiennes', Bärenreiter presents further central piano works by Satie in the Urtext. Like the 'Gymnopédies' (BA10804), the 'Gnossiennes' are particularly suitable for piano lessons due to their easy to moderate technical demands. Practical performance tips by Satie specialist Steffen Schleiermacher and a detailed foreword by renowned musicologist Jens Rosteck provide valuable information on the composition, meaning and interpretation.
