Johann Jacob Froberger (1616-1667) was of outstanding importance in his time, as his compositional style created a synthesis of Italian, French and English influences. His music continued to be published for around seventy years after his death and was apparently even played after 1750. Today, there is a growing awareness that Froberger's importance for keyboard music in the 17th century is comparable only to that of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.

The 11-volume bilingual (German/English) Complete Edition of Froberger's works contains a Critical Report and a detailed preface with chapters on the scope and structure of the new edition, editing techniques and performance practice for each volume. There are also notes on contemporary instruments, ornamentation and Froberger's biography.
Volume VII (BA 9298) contains an appendix listing all of Froberger's works known to date(FbWV).

The two volumes VI.1 (BA 9213) and VI.2 (BA 9269) contain the musical text of the anonymous 17th-century copy, undoubtedly derived from autographs, which was returned to the Berlin Singakademie from Kiev in 2001, as well as other new manuscripts and compositions.
