Description:
Fauré's "Pavane" for orchestra was composed in 1887, followed in the same year by a version for choir and orchestra. Three decades later, Sergei Djagilev would have the work danced by his Ballets russes, an example of the composition's great popularity. The "Pavane" exudes the esprit of the fêtes galantes in turn-of-the-century Paris. The version for solo piano, most likely arranged by Fauré, was published in 1889, which he performed several times and also recorded on music rolls.
This Urtext edition is based on the musical text of the complete edition "Gabriel Fauré Œuvres complètes". For the edition of the "Pavane", the editor drew in particular on the first print of the piano version, as well as the autograph of the orchestral version and Fauré's second recording of the piano version. An elegant engraved score with practical turning points invites you to study this popular work.
