Description:

Louis Vierne was a celebrated organist. Throughout his life, however, he also devoted himself intensively to playing and composing for the piano, for whose tonal finesse and richness he had a special sense.

The pieces in this volume, including first publications, date from Vierne's early years and are in the tradition of the Romantic character piece, but reveal Vierne's individual musical language both in their harmony and in their elegant sense of sound. Unlike the later piano compositions, these works are predominantly of an intermediate level of difficulty and are therefore also suitable for a wider circle of pianists.

The editor, Brigitte de Leersnyder, is a pianist and piano teacher. She has also spent many years researching the piano music of Louis Vierne and has published her findings in a comprehensive and highly regarded monograph.
