In his "Douze Préludes" op. 36 and "Trois Nocturnes" op. 35, composed between 1914 and 1916, Vierne drew on the Romantic piano tradition, while allowing the historical models to be heard anew in that special tone between elegance and expressivity that is characteristic of French music of the time.

The editor of this volume is the renowned pianist Olivier Gardon. As an interpreter and researcher, he has been working on the piano music of Louis Vierne for over twenty years and is more familiar with it than almost anyone else. You can hear this for yourself by listening to the complete recording on CD that Olivier Gardon made in 1995.
