Description:
Schubert's great C minor Sonata D 958 was composed in 1828, a few months before his death, at the same time as the late sonatas in A D 959 and in B flat D 960. The three works, conceived by Schubert as a triad, are regarded as his musical legacy in the field of piano sonatas.
With the critical-practical Urtext edition edited by Walburga Litschauer on the basis of the "New Schubert Edition", this important work by Schubert is now also available in a reader-friendly new edition.
Practical performance notes on pedalization and in particular on Schubert's characteristic accent writing introduce the work. In addition, the Critical Commentary lists interpretationally relevant readings. Schubert's sketches for all four movements of this sonata are available on the Bärenreiter homepage.
