Description:
The German-Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff captured the spirit of the times with his works composed in the 1920s—an original blend of traditional genres, rhythms inspired by jazz and dance music, and a cautiously expanded tonal range. This volume comprises the piano sonatas composed between 1924 and 1927 and acknowledged by Schulhoff.
Michael Kube has edited the first critical edition based on the prints published during Schulhoff’s lifetime, comparing them with the surviving manuscript sources. In doing so, he not only corrected errors but also reconstructed specific idiosyncrasies of Schulhoff’s notation. The autograph fair copy served as the primary source for the 3rd Sonata.
