Description:
Antonín Dvořák completed the five-movement "Suite in A Major," Op. 98, for piano on March 1, 1894, in New York, shortly after the overwhelming success of his Symphony No. 9, "From the New World." As he himself noted in the autograph, it was the fifth work he composed during his stay overseas. In a letter to his publisher Simrock, he described the suite, along with the "Biblical Songs," as the best he had achieved in this genre to date. The suite was published by Simrock that same year and premiered in December.
After careful evaluation of all surviving sources—including Dvořák’s autograph—editor Iacopo Cividini used the first printed edition of the work as the primary source for the present edition.
