Ravel's cycle of "Valses nobles et sentimentales" caused irritation at the anonymous premiere in 1911 at the Société nationale indépendante in Paris: many suspected Satie or even Kodály as the composer.
For the new Bärenreiter Urtext edition of the "Valses nobles et sentimentales", the renowned musicologist and co-editor of the "Œuvres Complètes de Gabriel Fauré" Nicolas Southon critically analyzes an extensive collection of sources and presents a musical text that presents new readings.
The edition contains fingerings and notes on the interpretation by the French pianist Alexandre Tharaud, one of the outstanding interpreters of Ravel's music of our time, as well as commentaries by pianists close to Ravel such as Lucian Garban, Vlado Perlemuter, Robert Casadesus and Jacques Février.
