Robert Schumann befand die Musik des sehr erfolgreichen Kollegen für seicht: 'Denn hat es, vielleicht [Moritz Gottlieb] Saphir ausgenommen, irgend Jemand aufrichtig mit den Menschen und sich gemeint, so ist es Henri Herz, unser Landsmann. Was will er denn, als amüsiren und nebenbei reich werden?' Die hübschen Variationen über die Cavatine 'Non più mesta' aus Rossinis Oper 'La Cenerentola' (Aschenputtel) erschienen 1830 bei Schott (Plattennummer 3428).
