Description:
Mozart wrote variations for piano from his earliest youth. The first examples date back to 1766, the last work was written in 1791, the year of his death. Mozart repeatedly excelled as an improviser on his concert tours, and so his variation sequences were the result of direct improvisation. The substance of the theme and its technical appeal are the main sources of inspiration.
This practical edition contains all of Mozart's variations, including the fragmentary series of variations that have survived. The edition contains the internationally recognized authoritative Urtext of the New Mozart Edition, a synonym for absolute reliability of the musical text - the necessary prerequisite for an interpretation at the highest level.
