Description:
Mozart's most popular instrumental work, Eine kleine Nachtmusik K. 525, was previously available in the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition as a conducting score and string parts, suggesting a performance exclusively by a chamber orchestra. Although the work has been assigned to the group of orchestral serenades in the New Mozart Edition, the editors have expressly pointed out in the preface to the volume in question that the works in this volume are by no means to be regarded as orchestral works from the outset or should be performed in a larger choral setting. or to be thought of in larger choral scoring: a very sparsely scored small chamber orchestra might be the right choice, and even solo music-making à 4 or à 5 could come close to Mozart's intentions.
