Description:
The composition of the first string quartet "From my life" was preceded by a period of fateful changes in Smetana's life. In 1874 he lost his hearing. Two years later, he moved with his family to the countryside in Jabkenice, which seemed like an expulsion to him: he suffered from his deafness and the lack of contact with people who could understand him. He imagined the string quartet as a conversation in a close circle of four friends talking about what was bothering him. It is a kind of passionate and resigned dialog between a combative personality and his fate. Smetana's first string quartet soon became one of the most frequently performed string quartets. The musical text of the new edition is based on the "Studienausgabe der Werke Bedrich Smetana", Volume XV - Chamber Music Works. - Urtext of the "Studienausgabe der Werke Bedrich Smetanas"- New preface by Marta Ottlova (Czech/English/German)
