With the three-volume Saßmannshaus school "Early Beginnings on the Double Bass", the long-established "standard work for young string players" has been expanded. It takes into account the development of the last few decades, in which younger and younger children's ensembles and orchestras have emerged, which demand fully-fledged instrumentation possibilities.

In the first booklet, after the introduction with empty strings and the simplest note values, the "Rufterz" follows as a basic and orientation interval, especially with regard to learning clean intonation. Using children's songs, all of which have lyrics so that the melody lines can always be understood as a whole, the first booklet successively introduces the first, fourth and second fingers and note values from whole notes to quavers. From the very beginning, special attention is paid to reading the notation; in addition, simple string transitions and basic stroke types are practiced. The booklet, which is particularly child-friendly with enlarged music and enchanting color illustrations, comes with a sheet of music cards to cut out, which the young pupils can use to invent numerous laying and guessing games and later also learn scales and note names.

The authors
The double bass school, published by J. Peter Close and Holger Saßmannshaus, is based on preliminary work by Egon Saßmannshaus and the double bass teacher Ulrich Schwarz. "Early Beginnings on the Double Bass" transfers the principles and experiences from the violin school, combines them with the modern methodology of double bass playing and thus ensures rapid success on this special instrument.

Holger Saßmannshaus, son of Egon Saßmannshaus, is a double bass player with the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker in Mönchengladbach/Krefeld, double bass teacher and musician in other ensembles.

J. Peter Close is Egon Saßmannshaus' son-in-law and works as a teacher of cello and double bass in Munich.

The Saßmannshaus/Close family's accumulated knowledge and many years of cross-generational experience make the three volumes of the "standard work for young string players" the most thorough and well thought-out double bass school for beginners worldwide.
