The third, bilingual (German/English) volume is dedicated to the development of position playing and the learning of different bowing techniques. The newly introduced positions are first introduced in a methodically proven way using songs and exercises that have already been learned, and then deepened in a variety of duets and pieces in different styles. In addition to classical double bass literature, this booklet contains new arrangements from the string literature as well as original compositions by Boguslaw Furtok specially adapted to the concept of the school.

Some pieces are accompanied by a piano accompaniment, which is included in the booklet as a separate playing score to enrich the music-making experience.

Further learning content in the third booklet also includes the first ornaments, harmonics and the triplet as a new rhythmic unit.

The collection of effective and easy-to-study "Concert Pieces for Double Bass and Piano" (BA 9696), published by the same team of authors, can be used as a follow-up to the Double Bass School to build a bridge to the demanding concert literature for double bass.

The authors
The double bass school edited by J. Peter Close and Holger Saßmannshaus is based on preliminary work by Egon Saßmannshaus and the double bass teacher Ulrich Schwarz. "Early Beginnings on the Double Bass" transfers the principles and experiences from the violin school, combines them with the modern methodology of double bass playing and thus ensures rapid success on this special instrument.

Holger Saßmannshaus, son of Egon Saßmannshaus, is a double bass player with the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker in Mönchengladbach/Krefeld, double bass teacher and musician in other ensembles.

J. Peter Close is Egon Saßmannshaus' son-in-law and works as a teacher for cello and double bass in Munich.

The Saßmannshaus/Close family's concentrated knowledge and many years of cross-generational experience make the three volumes of the "standard work for young string players" the most thorough and well thought-out double bass school for beginners worldwide.
