Description:
This virtuoso work by Camille Saint-Saëns, composed in 1887 and based on the Cuban habanera rhythm, is part of the standard classical concert repertoire. Having already published the successful Urtext edition of Saint-Saëns' "Allegro appassionato" (BA 9047) with Bärenreiter, Christine Baur now presents the "Havanaise" in the version for violin and piano.
This edition is the first text-critical edition of the composition; both the composer's autograph and the later orchestrated version have been scientifically analyzed. Where the solo part of the orchestral version differs from the version for violin and piano, this is noted in the violin part in the form of ossias.
The editor summarizes the genesis of the "Havanaise" in the preface (German/English/French); a detailed critical report (English) completes the Urtext edition.
