Description:
Vieuxtemps became acquainted with the Rákóczi March in 1843 during a concert tour to Pest and wrote his own version of it there, which he immediately premiered with great success. The concerts in Pest ended in a scandal, however, as a result of which Vieuxtemps avoided the city for 23 years and his Rákóczi March remained unprinted in the family archives. The work herewith published in its first printing is an effective encore piece in the version with orchestra, and a bravura chamber music work in the version with piano.
