Antonio Salvi's 'Arminio' is one of the most popular opera libretti of the Baroque period.
Set against the historical backdrop of the so-called 'Battle of the Teutoburg Forest' in 9 AD, in which the Cheruscan prince Arminius inflicts a devastating defeat on the Romans as the 'liberator of Germania' (Tacitus), Handel's opera, first performed in 1737, is about violent clashes between the Chatti and the Cherusci. Arminius has married the daughter of his mortal enemy Segestes. When he is taken prisoner, Segestes, who is conspiring with the Romans, sees the moment of revenge has come.
> Urtext edition based on the 'Hallische Händel-Ausgabe'
> Original Italian libretto with sangable German translation
> Comprehensive bilingual preface (German/English) with interesting facts about the libretto and the history of its composition and performance. In addition, the preface contains a detailed description of the plot.
> Extensive appendix with richly decorated versions of two arias
> Practice-oriented, easy-to-play piano reduction (Italian/German)
> First performance in Halle in 2014
