Italian opera was the focus of Handel's work for over 35 years, with the solo aria being one of the most important elements within Baroque opera. They are used to characterize the dramatic roles in their various moods and reactions. The majority of Handel's operas also contain at least one extensive scene for two or three voices. These numbers not only have similar lyrical or expressive forms of expression to the aria, but also contrapuntal elements, as they appear in Handel's chamber music.

Based on the musical text of the Bärenreiter piano reductions, three volumes have been published containing some of Handel's best-known arias, duets and tercets, as well as some lesser-known numbers of equal musical quality. The arias are arranged in chronological order, based on the composition of the operas.

The three volumes:
Female roles for high voice (BA 4295)
Male roles for high voice (BA 4296)
Duets, tercets and ensemble movements from Handel's operas (BA 4297)
