Description:
Christian Reinhold Köstlin (1813–1856), a lawyer by profession who came from a family of theologians and scholars, was married to the song composer and Munich court singer Josephine Lang (1815–1880). He wrote plays, novellas, and numerous poems, many of which she in turn set to music. These are moments and moods of nature poetry that find words for the longing between the lyrical "I" and the "you" of the other in the imagery of Romanticism—gracefully and without the imposition of gender stereotypes.
