Description:
The present edition contains 24 piano songs by the German-French composer Georg and Georges Schmitt. Together with the 21 works in the first volume, all of the composer's piano songs are now available. The first nine songs in this edition appeared in Parisian prints between 1853 and 1882, the rest are available as manuscripts by Schmitt. The edition contains solo songs, most of which belong to the lighter genre of romance; in the last song from the collection "La lyre du jeune âge" op. 10 is a duet. In addition to the romances, there are also songs that belong to the more demanding genre of mélodie. The last of the present edition occupies a special position among the songs, written for coloratura-soprano and has an operatic character. (Wolfgang Grandjean)
