Description:
Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Graf von Colloredo demanded a mixed form for the masses performed in Salzburg: a Missa brevis in length, a Missa solemnis with timpani and trumpets in the instrumentation. With the Missa in C K. 220, Mozart presented a work that meets these requirements for the first time around 1775. The work was given the nickname "Sparrow Mass" because of a striking motif played by the violins in the Sanctus and Benedictus.
For this piano reduction, Andreas Köhs has contributed an improved orchestral reduction, which optimally transfers the instrumental parts to the piano and at the same time puts playability in the foreground. The vocal parts are based on the original text of the New Mozart Edition.
This piano reduction is compatible with the previous edition (BA5343-90), so it is not a problem if some choir members use the new one and others still use the old one. The score and orchestral parts are still available under order number BA05343.
