The Barcarole is a beautiful, yet rather simply constructed duet that allows for a variety of instrumentations. The piano part is not demanding; only the upper of the two vocal parts is required to reach a commanding height. The beautiful chamber composition is very typical of Rossini's musical style. He has set Ambroise Bétourné's verses to music in an extremely lively manner. (Guido Johannes Joerg).
