Description:
The "Sortie" comes from Louis Lefébure-Wély's main work, the twelve-volume collection "L'Organiste moderne" with liturgical organ music composed for Catholic mass and vespers services. The fact that these works remained rather unknown in this country may primarily be due to the fact that Lefébure-Wély cultivated a secular style in his organ music, which relies on catchy themes and motifs and does not shy away from incorporating elements of salon and operetta music. A good example of this style is "Sortie" from the 11th book of the "Organiste moderne", a piece that is intended as the opening music for a church service. The arrangement adopts the key of E flat major and is otherwise closely based on the original. In its new sound, the piece can form a clever conclusion to a chamber concert. (Christian Vitalis)
