Description:
My composition "From the Sea" was originally written for Trio d'Anches (oboe, clarinet, bassoon). For this edition, I have arranged the work for two oboes and bassoon—an instrumentation that is historically far more established than today’s repertoire might suggest. As early as the 18th century, serenades and divertimenti—particularly those by Mozart—were arranged for smaller wind ensembles, including trio versions for two oboes and bassoon. These early arrangements demonstrate how naturally this combination of instruments was used at the time.
Today, however, this time-honored combination is rarely performed, as the Trio d’Anches established itself as the standard instrumentation in the 20th century, and pure double-reed trios have largely fallen out of favor. It is therefore all the more gratifying that From the Sea has recently—for example, in 2026 at the "Jugend musiziert" competition— successfully combined works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Friedrich Fasch in the version for two oboes and bassoon, thereby demonstrating how well this repertoire blends together. The four movements of *From the Sea* are deliberately composed to be accessible, with the aim of providing both advanced amateur musicians and young musicians with a contemporary work. With this edition, I hope to expand the repertoire for this traditional—yet today rarely performed—instrumentation. May this version help breathe new life into this beautiful-sounding ensemble.
