Description:

  • Genre: Classical Music
  • Accompaniment: Piano
Rossini was born in Pesaro (Italy) and died in Paris. Today he is one of the most famous Italian composers. His operas are regularly performed and celebrated. Clarinetists know Rossini's piece 'Introduction, Theme and Variations' from 1819. Less well known is the Fantasia for clarinet and piano selected here. The first print 'Fantasia per clarinetto e pianoforte' was published by Ricordi in Milan in 1829. The work was reprinted by Schott under the title Fantaisie pour piano et Clarinette ou Violon ou Flûte in 1890 (plate number 3109) - a testament to the popularity of the piece. The Fantaisie has a free form with four parts: a dramatic introduction - a light, lilting theme and two variations (the first of which is for piano) - an aria over chords played in tremolo - and an effective finale.
