Description:
Indispensable repertoire work; first critical version; two versions of the ballad included in score and piano reduction
Carl Reinecke was interested in exploring music and not just "snacking" on it. It is clear from numerous statements that he approved of small deviations in the musical text in parallel passages and even enjoyed them. The present edition largely refrains from adjusting - Reinecke calls it applanation or leveling. It is based on the first edition of the orchestral parts on the one hand and on the composer's original version for flute and piano on the other, the only surviving source in which the solo part is included. The fact that the different versions have not been harmonized, but rather juxtaposed in the score and also in the piano reduction matching the edition, makes it easier for the user to deal with the two versions through direct comparison. At the same time, this edition offers a consistent musical text that is suitable for today's orchestral practice.
