Description:
Leclair, one of the most important French composers and violinists of the 18th century, left four booklets of 12 sonatas each for violin and basso continuo. The last booklet (1738) contains two sonatas, one in G major, the other in E minor, which can also be played with the flute and have now been published individually for this instrumentation. In his works, Leclair continues the great tradition of the French clavecinists, but remains formally faithful to the Baroque suite, although approaches to an expansion of the framework are unmistakable.
