Description:
For whom did Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach write his solo sonata? Time and again, the Prussian King Frederick II has been brought into play as the sonata's addressee. Bach, however, would not have made music exclusively intended for the king available to the general public. The flute solo, however, appeared in print twice in the 1760s. The mystery will not be solved. Today, the three-movement work is one of the solo pieces that every flutist must have played once - truly royal music. The Travers flutist Karl Kaiser contributes knowledgeable comments on performance practice.
