Description:
This work from 1800 is unique in André's oeuvre: a trio for three flutes. It bears the title "Original Trio" in the first edition because it is not an arrangement, as is usually the case, but an original composition for this instrumentation. With its four movements, it represents the type of classical sonata sequence. The opening movement also has hints of the sonata form, although it does not fit completely into this template. The trio offers a thoroughly challenging but welcome change to the existing repertoire for flautists. (Florian Ilge)
