Description:
These three editions (BA 5880, BA 5889, BA 5890), each with two sonatas for solo instrument and basso continuo, are all from Telemann's famous Essercizii Musici, a collection of 24 sonatas in total, including 12 solo sonatas and 12 trio sonatas. The works are influenced by Corelli's "Sonata da Chiesa" and each consists of four movements in the tempo sequence slow - fast - slow - fast. While it was long assumed that the sonatas were composed in the late 1730s, it is now thought that the composer first published them around 1729. The main sources for the present editions are the three partbooks from 1729 in the original edition.
The sonatas appear here for the first time in Urtext editions edited by Bach and Telemann scholar Klaus Hofmann for the monumental edition "Telemanns Musikalische Werke". The continuo realizations are by the editor.
