The Trio Sonata HWV 405, which we are publishing here in the Urtext edition of the Halle Handel Edition, was likely composed during Handel’s stay in Italy from 1707 to 1709, making it a relatively early work. It was not until 2003 that it became possible to present this sonata in a complete text edition. Handel also uses numerous motifs from this short trio sonata in other works of his, so that when performing it, connections to other compositions by Handel repeatedly come to light, shedding light on this characteristic aspect of his compositional practice.
