Musik für Orgel, sozusagen ein mit Tasten angesteuertes Blasorchester, eignet sich hervorragend für die Präsentation durch Saxophonensembles. In instrumentenkundlichen Darstellungen wird immer wieder auf die Nähe des Saxophonklangs zum Orgelklang hingewiesen.
Aus den vielen Sätzen für Orgel, die Mendelssohn in den Jahren 1843-1845 schreib, wurden die vorliegenden 'Drei festlichen Stücke' ausgewählt. Ohne Eingriffe in die kompositorische Substanz konnten sie in einen Satz für fünfstimmiges Saxophonensemble umgewandelt werden.
