Description:
Over the years, the saxophone quartet genre had been rather foreign to me – until I heard the Kebyart Ensemble. The homogeneity and virtuosity of the sound of these four young Catalan saxophonists made me feel like writing for this line-up. The result is now 7 "whims", i.e. Capricci; short, very different pieces that explore the possibilities of the four saxophones: from the opening chromatic-quarter-tone "Ascensió" to two noise pieces, a waltz, 2 chorales to the concluding "circus parade", from holy seriousness to exuberant comedy. - Jörg Widmann
