Description:
Over the years, the saxophone quartet genre had been rather foreign to me - until I heard the Kebyart Ensemble. The homogeneity and virtuosity of the sound of these four young Catalan saxophonists made me want to write for this ensemble. The result is now 7 "Launen", or capricci; short, very different pieces that explore the possibilities of the four saxophones: from the opening chromatic quarter-tone "Ascensió" to two noise pieces, a waltz, 2 chorales and the concluding "Zirkusparade", from sacred seriousness to exuberant comedy. - Jörg Widmann
