Description:
Carla's Blues No. 5 is a tremendously driving and energetic long-meter rock blues in an unusual 5/4 rhythm. Standing up and indomitability are the central themes of this composition. This basic mood within the performing quartet allows the soloist to play in a groovy, expressive and forward-looking manner. The second and third voices sound together like a rock guitar (powerful, intense and focused). With appropriate execution, the "odd" and presumed bulky 5/4 time does not close itself off at all, but shows itself as an absolute matter of course. Over the accompanying riff of the baritone saxophone, this blues moves absolutely danceable on a brisk five-quarter basis. (Wolfgang Eisele)
