Fanfares have a long tradition as carriers of musical messages: it was a knightly art to play brass instruments - and so fanfares announced high, royal or imperial visits, introduced tournaments or were entrée to theatrical spectacles. My two fanfares are musically related: The motifs of the first fanfare change in the second, change direction, and something new emerges. The premiere of the two fanfares in June 2017 for the opening of ZEI (Center for Energy and Information at the Technical University of Munich/Research Campus Garching) was intended to announce pioneering research.
