Description:
Trumpet (C or Bb) and chamber orchestra or wind ensemble or piano
Exact instrumentation: Orchestra Version: 1.1.0.1.-1.0.0.0 - timpani, strings - wind ensemble version: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba and timpani
This concertino was written with three different accompaniments to the same trumpet solo part (in Bb with alternative part in C). This results in several performance possibilities: 1) Solo trumpet and chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, bassoon, horn, timpani and strings). 2) Solo trumpet and wind ensemble (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn in F, trumpet in Bb, trombone, bass trombone, tuba and timpani) 3) Solo trumpet and piano reduction. The Concertino was commissioned by the CDMC (Conseil départemental pour la Musique et la Culture de Haute-Alsace) France and its director Philippe Pfisterer with the aim of enriching the trumpet repertoire with an artistically accessible work (technical difficulty 4 to 6). The piece begins in a very gentle, mysterious mood and then alternates rhythmic and calm episodes until a lively conclusion. Caroline Charrière, April 2011, Fribourg, Switzerland
