This Christmas cantata by Georg Philipp Telemann, composed for a performance in 1759, is, according to Karl Wilhelm Ramler, one of the most beautiful Christmas pieces of the 18th century.
It features festive trumpet brilliance and touching chorales. Telemann uses the musical means rather sparingly and restrainedly, allowing the choir to come into play at the central points of the two parts and underpinning the scenery with an unobtrusive, pastoral Christmas tone. A worthwhile alternative for the Christmas concert.

The edition contains an English translation of the German text in the appendix and follows the Urtext of the Telemann-Werkausgabe (volume 30), thus offering up-to-date editorial reliability.
