With its often double-choir movements, Israel in Egypt offers an extremely contrasting spectrum of expression, ranging from expressive lamentation and dramatic descriptions of the plagues to the festive, triumphant rejoicing of the liberated Israelites. This outstanding work in Handel's oratorio oeuvre is available as a critical edition as part of the Stuttgart Handel Editions (Urtext). It contains the complete three-part version of the work from 1739, edited by the English musicologist Clifford Bartlett, a highly experienced specialist in the international early music scene.
