Description:
The three motets op. 69 and the three psalm settings op. 78 are part of the standard repertoire of many choirs and vocal ensembles.
The editions by the two Mendelssohn specialists Hiromi Hoshino and Michael Cooper present the three motets [BA 8937; BA 8934-8936] and the three psalm settings [BA 8941; BA 8938-8940] in individual editions based on the current state of research.
Mendelssohn's setting of the 91st Psalm "For he has commanded his angels" [BA 8933] (later resumed in Elijah with orchestral accompaniment) appears in the same form in the original version for eight-part a cappella choir.
All editions contain the original German text and the English translation authorized by Mendelssohn. A reduction of the vocal parts to an appended piano system makes it easier for the choirmaster to work in rehearsal.
Complete editions with critical reports and introductory texts in German and English.
