Description:
When we hear the words "Johann Sebastian Bach" and "Magnificat", we immediately think of his famous Magnificat in D major BWV 243 or E flat major BWV 243a. However, during his time as St. Thomas' Cantor, Bach also drew on older settings of the Magnificat text on several occasions and adapted them for his own purposes. It has now been proven for the first time that the original version of the previously anonymous double-choir Magnificat in C major BWV Anh. 30 from Bach's music library was written by Pietro Torri, the court music director of the Bavarian Wittelsbach dynasty. For performance purposes in Leipzig around 1742, Bach left the substance of the work as it was, but composed additional parts for the 3rd trumpet and timpani. This magnificent work in Bach's arrangement is now being published for the first time as a sheet music edition.
