Description:
The 6-part chorale setting on the introit of the Mass for the Dead was composed during Rheinberger's teaching activities at the Royal School of Music in Munich. Together with his composition students, he worked on this six-part movement on the liturgical cantus firmus in May/June 1877. As is well known, despite all his contrapuntal artistry, it was important to Rheinberger that "all voices should sing".
